Thou hast given me a fixed disposition to go forth and spend my life for thee;
If it be thy will let me proceed in it; if not then revoke my intentions.
All I want in life is such circumstances as may best enable me to serve thee in the world;
To this end I leave all my concerns in thy hand. (Puritan Prayer Book)
The work and scope of Global Mosaic International continues to expand and evolve with acceptance of invitations to minister and serve in Tanzania, Malaysia, and Singapore in 2004.

Tanzania:
At the end of April, through a partnership with the organization African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministry (www.alarm-inc.org), we will be journeying to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania in East Africa. Our team will be meeting with more than two hundred counselors and pastors from the region. Some of these participants will be traveling for more than twenty-four hours, some coming by foot. Our teaching will be addressing specific needs identified by these Christian leaders as they serve their churches and people.

Our first week will be centered around equipping lay counselors in skills and techniques through presentation of didactic information and opportunities to practice and observe during practicum sessions.
During our second week of ministry we will be focusing on training pastors in the areas of leadership and conflict management.

Throughout the entire two week period each member of our team will be listening, encouraging, sharing, and praying for the participants. We will be discovering that despite our geographical distance from one another and our cultural diversity we share much. Our common needs, fears, concerns, weaknesses, and desires will bring us together as we seek to work out our common faith within the framework of our families, churches, and communities.

We pray that long-term friendships will be forged not just between team members and the participants but also between the local church leaders so that the continued Christian presence will be strengthened and visible.

"If there was a conference that has ever blessed my heart and broadened my mind and spirit, then it is this conference on Counseling. I have been a counselor in my local church and in my ministry for a long period of time and have given counsel to different age groups, but it is in this conference that a new revelation has dawned on me ... I now realize that although many people have found help through my counseling ministry, the help they got came as a result of God's grace and intervention - not necessarily because I was good at counseling" (Bibiana Semu, Counselor).

"I used to be a judge in my counseling sessions instead of being a counselor. One week before coming to this conference, a client with a marital problem came to seek counsel from me. After this conference I have the confidence of handling the case in a different way" (Rev. A. O. Mwasongela, Pastor).

Malaysia and Singapore:
Traveling west in July our team will be returning to Southeast Asia for the third time in three years. We will be building upon earlier work in Malaysia as we continue to equip and train lay leaders and counselors. Our specific assistance this trip will be skills training in counseling, conflict management, and women’s ministries. We will also be consulting with and assisting in the establishment of a walk-in counseling center which will offer low cost or free services to the community. This acute need was identified during our previous trips when we were confronted with the debilitating levels of conflict within families with nowhere to turn for help in a society which has culturally regarded such admissions as taboo. After the team returns to the US I will remain in Kuala Lumpur for more training sessions in both church and secular settings.
In Singapore our main goal will be to assist the staff of a large cell-based multi-ethnic church to organize a church-based lay counseling and pastoral ministry program. If time permits we will also offer our assistance in leadership training.
While in Malaysia we will be meeting with the many students who are enrolled in a seminary distance education program in Biblical studies with a variety of concentrations. These are students which GMI assisted with enrollment fees, purchase of books, and payment of tuition. These expenses continue to be supported by GMI and there will be need for more financial help with additional students wishing to enroll from Africa as well This area of equipping leaders through distance education is a very important facet of our ministry.
