2010 is here and Global Mosaic International is continuing to expand its outreach. We will be returning to Asia on January 7. I will use the first week there to fully move into the apartment we have rented in Kuala Lumpur to serve as a base for our work in Asia. I am looking forward to having a place to retreat to but also to have room for team members to stay together. Our wonderful network of friends in Malaysia have done the leg work to have it ready for me and are always finding ways to give me support while I am there.
On January 16, I will be returning to India. Two former team members from the United States will join me there and I will also be bringing nine of my students from Malaysia. We will be dividing into three groups as we try to meet specific needs in three locations. Tim and I will be teaching at the the Christian Medical College in Vellore. This is my third time of being with these wonderful, humble,servant leaders who provide care for thousands of people each year. The beginning founder of this institution was Ida Scudder who was a childhood hero of mine when I read about her while growing up in Beirut. I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to become a part of the legacy of her work.
When I return to Malaysia on January 25 I will be busy every day leading a course on multicultural counseling. We are working toward being able to graduate the first class of counseling students from Alpha Omega International College in November of this year.
My husband, Steve, who stays home in Virginia most of the times when I am involved overseas with GMI has convinced me to stay three weeks in Malaysia after the class is finished and to not schedule any other commitments. He will join me for three weeks and attempt to slow me down to enjoy the friends, foods, weather, and beauty of Malaysia together before returning to the states. I will actually not be going directly home to Virginia but will stop in Texas to spend time with two of our sons and their families and of course fit in a conference.
This year will be the first year since 2002 that I will spend the summer in Virginia. My plan is to return to Asia the last week of July and I will be there until the first week of December. Malaysia's location is ideal for access to all the countries in the region. We have been to Cambodia, India, Indonesia, and also to East Malaysia on the island of Borneo. We have received requests to come to China, Hong Kong, and Vietnam.
We would love to go to every single place and maintain ongoing relationships with the wonderful people we meet. Our heart is always willing but our time is limited.
